Feature Update: Add Keywords to Your Metadata

April 1, 2026

We’ve added a new way to help your audiobooks reach more listeners. Authors can now include keywords directly in their metadata for both production and distribution projects. You can enter multiple keywords or short phrases—just separate them with semicolons.

Keywords play an important role in how your audiobook is discovered. Many retailers and library platforms use metadata—including keywords—to help categorize content, power search results, and inform recommendation engines. The more accurately your audiobook is described, the better chance it has of appearing in relevant searches and being surfaced to the right listeners. While keywords don’t guarantee placement, they can strengthen your visibility when paired with strong categories, descriptions, and reviews.

How to Choose Effective Keywords

Think like your ideal listener. What would they type when searching for a book like yours? Focus on specific, relevant terms rather than broad or generic ones.

Here are a few tips:

  • Use genre and subgenre (“cozy mystery,” “dark fantasy”)
  • Include themes or tropes (“enemies to lovers,” “found family”)
  • Add setting or time period if it’s important (“Victorian London,” “small-town romance”)
  • Consider audience or tone (“clean romance,” “gritty thriller”)
  • Avoid misleading or overly broad keywords that don’t reflect your content

Adding thoughtful, targeted keywords is a simple step that can make a meaningful difference in how your audiobook is discovered.
